★3 - great for learning, limited for real trading

Composer's visual strategy builder and backtesting are genuinely excellent for learning systematic trading concepts. You can prototype an idea in minutes and see how it would have performed historically. The symphony sharing feature is cool — you can browse strategies other users have built and fork them. But when you try to actually trade real money, the limitations start showing: you're locked into their brokerage partner (Alpaca), the execution is daily rebalancing only (no intraday), and there's no way to export your strategy to run on your own infrastructure. It's a great educational tool and prototyping environment, but it's not a production trading platform. I use Composer to test ideas, then implement the promising ones elsewhere for live trading. At $5/month it's worth keeping just for the backtesting sandbox, but I wouldn't trust my entire portfolio to it. If they added more broker integrations and intraday execution, it could be a game changer.

★5 - built my first quant strategy without writing code

Composer lets you build algorithmic trading strategies with a visual drag-and-drop interface, and it's shockingly powerful for a no-code tool. I've built 4 symphonies (their term for strategies) ranging from a simple moving average crossover to a multi-asset risk parity portfolio. The backtesting is beautiful — it shows you exactly how your strategy would have performed over any time period, with clear metrics on drawdown, Sharpe, and volatility. What makes it different from other no-code platforms: you're not just setting up rules on a single asset — you can create complex multi-asset strategies with weighting logic. My favorite symphony rotates between SPY, TLT, and GLD based on momentum. The $5/month pricing is absurdly cheap for what you get. Downsides: it's focused on US stocks and ETFs, so no crypto or forex. And the execution is through their brokerage integration (Alpaca primarily), so you're somewhat locked into their ecosystem. But for retail investors who want to dip into systematic investing without coding, Composer is currently the best tool available.

★4 - the ETF rotation strategies alone are worth the $5

I'm not a sophisticated trader — I just wanted a way to automatically rotate between a few ETFs based on momentum rather than picking stocks manually. Composer does exactly this, and does it well. I set up a simple strategy: each month, invest in the top 3 performing ETFs from a basket of 10 (mostly sector ETFs like XLK, XLF, XLE). The backtest showed it outperforming SPY noticeably annually with lower drawdowns — and after 4 months live, it's tracking close to the backtest. The interface is clean and the strategy-building logic is intuitive once you spend an hour with it. The $5/month pricing is a steal compared to any other automated investment platform. Limitations: it's long-only, no shorting or options. But for a buy-and-rotate strategy on a ROTH IRA, it's perfect. Would love to see crypto integration in the future, but for traditional markets it's a solid tool.
