Overview

Gunbot has survived three crypto winters — that alone says something. Forty-five pre-built strategies covering DCA, GRID, and multiple scalping approaches, all battle-tested across bull and bear markets. One-time payment model: buy once, run forever on your own hardware, or use their cloud option. The community has been active since 2016, so forum support and shared configs are abundant. Now the honest part: the UI looks like it's from 2016 too. Documentation is spotty, and strategies are rule-based — there's no AI or ML layer here. If you want a proven workhorse that doesn't nickel-and-dime you monthly, Gunbot delivers. If you want a modern UX, look elsewhere.

3 - powerful but you better know what you're doing

Gunbot is the Linux of trading bots — incredibly powerful if you know how to configure it, incredibly frustrating if you don't. I spent 2 weeks fine-tuning my strategy config and another week debugging exchange API issues before it ran smoothly. Once configured, the execution is fast and reliable. The backtesting tools are basic but functional. What I like: the non-custodial approach (API keys stay on your machine), the one-time payment model, and the deep customization options. What I don't like: the documentation is outdated in places, the community forum is slow to respond, and there's no refund policy if you buy it and realize it's too technical for you. I'd only recommend Gunbot if: (1) you're comfortable with terminal/SSH, (2) you understand trading strategy logic, and (3) you're willing to invest 10-20 hours of setup time. If those three things are true, you'll love it. If not, go with a cloud platform instead.

4 - bought it once, been running it for 2 years

Gunbot's one-time license model is what sold me — I paid a one-time fee in 2024 and haven't paid a cent since. No subscriptions, no monthly fees, just the upfront cost. For someone who's tired of every platform trying to extract 50/month forever, this is refreshing. I run Gunbot on a $20-50/month VPS with connections to Binance and Bybit. The setup isn't beginner-friendly — you'll spend a weekend reading docs and configuring JSON files — but once it's running, it's rock solid. I've had 2 years of consistent execution with zero downtime that wasn't my VPS's fault. The strategy customization is deep — you can configure essentially any indicator-based strategy. The downsides are real: the interface looks like it's from 2018, there's no mobile experience, and the learning curve filters out casual users. But for technical traders who want full control, no recurring fees, and a battle-tested execution engine, Gunbot is still one of the best options. Just don't expect a polished SaaS experience.

4 - Not for beginners but powerful if you know what you doing

Gunbot is old school — been around since 2017 and it shows. The interface looks like Windows 95 but underneath its one of the most configurable bots out there. I run a custom BB + RSI strategy on multiple pairs on Binance and it is consistently profitable. The one-time payment model is rare these days, I paid once years ago and never paid again. The learning curve is brutal — it took me a while to really understand all the settings. Definitely not for beginners. If you want plug and play get 3Commas. If you want total control and are willing to invest time learning, Gunbot is unmatched. Warning: the community is small now and most tutorials are from 2020-2021 so you will need to figure things out yourself.
