Hummingbot isn't a trading bot you buy — it's an open-source Python framework for building your own high-frequency market making and arbitrage bots. A massive community, Apache 2.0 license, and years of battle-testing say everything about trust. The framework ships with ready-made strategies for cross-exchange market making, AMM arbitrage, and liquidity mining across 40+ CEXs and DEXs: Binance, OKX, Coinbase, Hyperliquid, Kraken, dYdX, Uniswap, Raydium, and dozens more. Condor is their new AI-powered harness that lets you run strategies using natural language. Gateway middleware connects to DEXs without running a full node. Self-host on Docker, or use their cloud dashboard for monitoring. This is a developer's tool — if you can't read Python, Hummingbot isn't for you. But if you're a quant or algo trader who wants complete control, there's nothing more flexible in open source.
I joined a small quant trading team last year and they were paying a lot for a closed-source market making platform that was constantly rate-limiting us and hiding execution details behind opaque APIs. I pushed to switch to Hummingbot and it has been the best decision we made. We run pure market making and cross-exchange arbitrage strategies across 8 pairs on Binance, Bybit, and OKX. The v2 strategy framework is pure Python — we wrote custom inventory management logic in a weekend. The performance is excellent. We are capturing spreads that our old platform missed because we can tune the order refresh rate and spread parameters exactly how we want. The community on Discord is genuinely helpful — actual quants sharing configs, not just hype. Is it beginner friendly? Absolutely not. You need Python, Docker, and a solid understanding of market microstructure. But for a professional setup without the enterprise price tag, Hummingbot is the best open-source trading infrastructure out there.

★4 — Solid framework but Docker setup was a pain
I have been running Hummingbot for the better part of this year doing simple cross-exchange market making on Binance and KuCoin. The strategy execution is rock solid — once it is running, it just works. Fills are fast, logging is clear, and I can audit every single trade. But getting there... man. The Docker Compose setup took me a full weekend and I am a backend dev by trade. Gateway config is way more complicated than it needs to be. The new Dashboard v2 is a huge improvement over the old terminal-only interface but it is still rough around the edges. If you are technical and want a free professional-grade market making setup, it is worth the effort. If you want something that works in 10 minutes, look elsewhere. I am sticking with it because once configured, nothing beats the flexibility for the price (free).
